The Report: Southend 2 Stevenage 0
Southend appear to have started the League 2 season in a similar vein to how we started last season with another win secured on Saturday when Stevenage Borough were beaten two-nil at Roots Hall.
Myles Weston has started life impressively enough with Southend since his summer arrival and he scored his first goal for us early in the game when Daniel Bentley's clearance was headed down to him by Barry Corr, who kept his place in the starting line up despite his penalty miss in our win last weekend.
Corr showed why Phil Brown kept him in the side as he played a big part in our second with us two-nil up after just twenty minutes. Corr's lay off to Ben Coker and he drove home as if a seasoned striker from the edge of the area.
Bentley was twice called into action in the first half to make sure we went into half time in command as he saved brilliantly to deny Adam Marriott from close range with him showing his speed out of the traps to get off his line quickly to deny Chris Whelpdale when he got through.
A goal was something that Corr's performance probably deserved and he would've got at least one had it not been for Stevenage goalkeeper Sam Beasant, who twice saved to deny him.
