Brown Proud Despite Defeat

Manager Phil Brown has said he remains proud of the players despite our two nil defeat to Plymouth Argyle yesterday.

With Cian Bolger being sent off very early on in the game, we had to play for more than 75 minutes with only ten men on the pitch, and given the effort that had to be put in over that time, Brown certainly wasn't going to criticise the team for losing with things stacked against them.

Speaking to the Official Site following the defeat, Brown said he was very pleased with how the team went about their business when we were a man down and he challenged Bolger to learn from that and not make the same mistakes again.

'I was really proud of the performance to tell you the truth. They really dug in, but the goal just after half time killed us. They are young lads out there, working hard for the shirt and wearing the shirt with pride. Cian found it hard to marshal Morgan in the first five minutes and got himself a yellow. I've just been across to our supporters and they asked why I didn't take him off and it's a fair point. After the second coming together I was going to, but the third happened before we had a chance to.'

Brown goes on to say that ultimately Bolger knows he helped contribute to the loss, so basically he has to learn the hard way now, but he tips him to learn that lesson and come back stronger because of it.

Brown also said that he didn't change the formation after the sending off or as the game went on as he was confident that we could still continue to cause them problems, and he felt we did that well, we just didn't carve out those clear cut chances that we needed to get ourselves back into the match properly.
