Bolger Signs Two Year Deal

Defender Cian Bolger has moved to Southend from Bolton Wanderers today and signed a two year deal, with an option for a third year.

The highly rated defender began life at Leicester City before completing his move to Bolton after three impressive trials spells with Bristol Rovers, and the 22 year old has now made the move to us for an undisclosed fee.

Bolger was the skipper of Bolton's Development Squad last season and also took in two loan spells with Colchester and Southend in 2013-14.

Unfortunately in his time with us he only played once after he picked up an ankle injury in the scoreless draw with York City, but clearly manager Phil Brown was impressed enough to tempt him back this time round.

Speaking to the Official Site as the deal was announced, Brown said.

'I can't emphasise enough how much this deal means to me as the manager of this football club. For the chairman to spend an undisclosed fee on a player who first appeared on the market two weeks for loan is a real statement of intent. To get a player of Cian's quality through the door is fantastic news, and with three arrivals on Monday, it really builds up the excitement ahead of the new season.'

Bolger said himself of his second return to Roots Hall that he was delighted to be back, and this time he aims to show truly what he can do.

'My spell last time was very short, but I now have the opportunity to really settle down. It felt it was time for me to make the permanent move instead of going on loan. It was a big decision for me, but I'm sure it will prove to be the right one.'

Never expected Cain to return on a permanent basis, but I'm delighted that he has. A great signing.
