'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Cort Quits

Is the thought of playing for Southend really that terrifying that you would rather retire than do this! Having featured for us as a trialist on Saturday 34 year old Leon Cort looked as though he could make a return to Roots Hall some decade after leaving.

Cort has today said in an interview with the Echo that he thinks that the 'time if right' to call it a day and as such has announced his retirement from the professional game with immediate effect as he has just decided that he's had enough.

Fair enough and good luck to Leon with whatever the future brings him.

Gavin Hoyte, Roman-Michael Percil and Craig Fagan were all trialists again for us in that two-one defeat to Braintree Town on Saturday, joined by Dan Leadbitter and Rowan Liburd, a defender and striker respectively, with Phil Brown saying in his Echo interview today that decisions are close but it looks that only one will get a deal.

Brown says that we're close to announcing the signing of one player, possible David Worrall, with him also saying that one of the trialists could come in, but stopped short of saying which one.

Ryan Auger's chances of gaining a new contract with us though have been dealt a blow after he was ruled out for three weeks with an ankle injury, which could well be the deciding factor in where his future lies after his contract wasn't renewed this summer but he was invited back on trial to prove his worth.
