'If It's Football, It's Vital'

A Good All Round Performance For Brown

Manager Phil Brown has said he was delighted with our overall showing in our first pre season friendly of the summer against Great Wakering Rovers.

A trip to the Burroughs Park this weekend, including a mix of trialists, seniors and youngsters, meant the five nil win certainly put a smile on the gaffer's face and vindicated his early belief that the players were now definitely ready to step back on the pitch seriously following the work we have done in pre season training so far.

Speaking to the Official Site following full time, the gaffer said.

'We came here last year and we had a bit of a struggle against a decent side - they showed that by winning the double last year. But this time around, with the week away in Spain we've just had, that extra bit of fitness and quality showed throughout the game. I thought it was an excellent performance all round. We played some good football, took our chances, and got some important minutes under our belt.'

With Brown being pleased with everybody on show, including the trialists, as he confirmed that Barry Corr, Michael Timlin and Paul Smith were rested following their exertions in Spain, he complimented Ellis for.

'Ellis did well in the first half. He went about his business and got his goal despite being up against two defenders who were trying to put a marker down. He linked up well with Lee Barnard and his pace caused problems. Myles came on and also got a goal, which will please him. He came to the club and told me he can play in the striker position and he certainly showed that with his performance.'

Onwards and upwards now for the rest of pre season given our aim is to go one better than last season.

First-half:

Bentley, Wilson (T), Azlam (T), Prosser, Auger, Hurst, Clifford, Bridge, Atkinson, Barnard, Brown.

Second-half:

T. Smith, White, Banton, Thompson, Coker, Fagan (T), Leonard, Payne, Michael-Percil (T), Williams, Weston.
