De las Heras On Trial
Contrary to Internet rumours Phil Brown has said in his interview with the Echo today that Alberto De las Heras hasn't signed for Southend, he has confirmed that the Spanish midfielder is on trial with us though and after impressing for us in Malaga he's been invited back to England.
Brown might have been quite insistent that he hasn't signed but isn't ruling this out after looking at him further with him expected to come over to train with us at Boots & Laces and feature in some pre season friendlies.
He's certainly impressed the manager though.
'It was the perfect time for us to have a look at him and we've all been impressed by his attitude which is excellent. He's done well with the ball and is technically very good.
'He can play in a few positions, including on both wings which is a position we're looking to strengthen so we've asked him to come back to England for us.
'We're not exactly sure when that is going to happen at this stage but he could well feature in one or two of the pre-season friendlies we have coming up.'
If he's a trialist that can make the grade can we make sure that we don't let him slip the net if we can avoid it this time!
The way our striker recruits are going we could be tempted to ask Freddy Eastwood back next season! As it stands our former striker still hasn't decided what his future will be in the game but he is still on course to do some training with us so he can feature in our pre season friendly at Roots Hall against Ipswich Town at the end of the month.
It does seem as though Freddy will retire though as he will be someway behind people having not taken part in pre season so far, which doesn't make it look like he's a player overly eager to return to playing? He'll have one last hurrah with us though.
