Holman Signs For Colchester

When Dan Holman ended his trial with Southend last week he did so with Phil Brown saying that he expected him to sign for a Conference side, in some people's eyes Colchester United might be that but last time I checked they were playing in League 1!

Not a Conference side Phil, Holman has in fact ended up at our Essex rivals. I'm not sure how we've managed to let this one slip the net?

He came in for pre season training on trial from Braintree Town with him spoken highly of but then within days we set off for Spain and he was left behind, supposedly not expected to make the grade at Football League level and then he signs a two year contract with The U's.

Someone's cocked up here, or Colchester have taken a risk that we weren't willing to do so. It's also possible that he didn't want to come to Roots Hall and his time on trial was merely spent to drum up further interest?

Until Holman starts showing what he can do next season we'll not know if he'll make the grade or not but you have to view him as a missed target and one we will have to hope we'll not live to regret, even more so as strikers are needed.
