'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Preview: Southend v Burton Albion

Southend need to beat Burton Albion at Roots Hall on Saturday afternoon, anything but a win and the League 1 dream ends in play off heartbreak once again and the battle to keep our better players becomes harder.

Fitness checks are needed for three players, as we stand John White, Michael Timlin and Luke Prosser doubts. Prosser might not have started at the Pirelli Stadium but Phil Brown would prefer him on the substitutes bench and he would like to name the same starting eleven if possible, which he will if they're passed fit.

Suspension keeps out Ian Sharps. Damien McCrory and Jimmy Phillips are out through injury with Adam McGurk and Zeli Ismail both doubts along with Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, McGurk and Cansdell-Sherriff are short of fitness after several weeks out.

It's a game we go into with a sense of déjà vu as two years ago we went into the second leg one-nil down against Crewe Alexandra with a two-two draw not enough for us to make it into the final.

We were unlucky to lose the first leg but that's been and gone, we'll get chances the main thing is that we've got to take them. If we can come away having been certain we gave our all we can't ask any more could we.

This is our time, I think, but it'll be a tight game with the pressure on Burton to start but the longer it goes without us managing to breakthrough the more this will turn to us I'd think and the supporter's anxiety will start to show.
