Leonard Seeks Promotion

Leonard Seeks Promotion

Ryan Leonard has called on the team to cap a great season for Southend off by achieving promotion to League 1 as we prepare for the double header against Burton Albion.

Speaking to the Official Site our supporters' Player of the Year said that there would be no better way to end the season now other than by booking a trip to Wembley and then securing promotion.

'The only way to make this season any better for me, in which I've signed a new deal, played a lot of games, been captain, scored goals and won the award from the supporters, is by winning promotion. It has been a big year but that won't count for much unless we can win promotion. We're all confident that is what we can do, and we've got the belief to make it happen.'

Leonard says that everybody is going into the games full of confident, not just because of our run of form of late, but also because we know we have already bested Burton twice this season, and whilst these games will be different, that is something that plays in our favour because they have to be thinking about it at the back of their heads in their preparation.

For us though, it's a boost ahead of the game, and then we treat them fresh.

'It's not something we will be thinking about when we got there on Sunday because it's a completely different environment. It's just two games, and we've got to go to their place with new ideas but also carry on with the way we have been playing because it has been very good.'

Leonard obviously is hoping to add to his tally so far of seven goals, but he doesn't mind if he doesn't, as long as somebody else gets the winners, because that is what is important.
