A Big Weekend For Southend

Manager Phil Brown has admitted this is a big weekend for the club following on from our disappointing loss to Wimbledon last weekend.

Speaking to the Official Site, Brown said it was a crucial weekend for every team vying for the play off spots as Easter usually sorts the wheat from the chaff in all areas of the league table.

Of course our run sees us face former league toppers Rochdale who will be going all out no doubt to get that spot back from Scunthorpe, and then we face Accrington Stanley who have had a huge turnaround in fortunes having not won for just over ten games or so at the beginning of the campaign and they will be fighting to ensure their efforts don't go to waste by being really sucked back into the relegation battle.

'Easter is always a crucial time for any team. At both ends of the division, teams are fighting for something, whether that's automatic promotion, the play offs or to avoid the drop. We wanted the win on Saturday but we've got to move on from that. We're already above the points tally from last season, so it's showing that we're making progress.'

The gaffer goes on to say that with four games left we just simply have to keep going, keep putting in good performances, keep making chances and put them away and then things will take care of themselves.

'We know we've got four games to secure a play off spot. The automatics are out of our reach now with four games left and the goal difference the way it is, so we know what we've got to do and what we can achieve.'

We know what we have to do, we have 12 points to play for and whilst a draw this weekend wouldn't be an awful result on the face of it, it would be the last thing we needed following Wimbledon with how tight it is in the battle for the play off spots.

Those extra three points could be very telling but if we respond the right way then we can make up for it.
