On loan defender John Egan has said he's hoping to follow in the footsteps of his parent club and book a trip to Wembley this season.
Having just recently extended his loan spell with Southend until the end of the season, Egan told the Official Site that he'd love nothing more than to book a trip to Wembley by helping us into the play off spots and following in the footsteps of his parent club who reached the Capital One Cup final at the National Stadium.
Egan has recently forged a very good defensive relationship with another loanee Jacub Sokolik and together they have helped us two four clean sheets in a row, and that's something he wants to continue as we push forward to secure a place in the play offs.
'I've had a great time here so far, I've loved every minute of it so I was delighted to extend the loan spell until the end of the season. Of course, I want to be playing games but it's not just about that, I want to help the team to Wembley and get Southend promoted.'
Egan goes on to say that both he and Sokolik are obviously looking to impress their parent clubs and continue developing as players, but they only way that will happen is if they are really helping us to success as well so the two things do go hand in hand and it's not just all about them as often appears to be the case with loanees in football sometimes.
'It has been a good couple of weeks for us on the pitch and it has put us back into a really good position in the league. Every game is a big one between now and the end of the season. I'm pleased with how I've done so far, but I just want to keep impressing.'
Egan goes on to say that working with Phil Brown, Dave Penney and Graham Coughlan he feels he has come on a lot in his weeks with us as a player so he's quick to pass praise on to them for how he has been treated here and for the help they have given him.
Taking some praise for his role in the clean sheets, he is also quick to pass praise on to everyone else for their role in them as well as he knows it's about the whole team when it comes to a defensive effort and not just him, or even him and Sokolik.
