Manager Phil Brown has said that the three points we gained in the game against Torquay was bigger than the result we gained against Oxford on Monday night.
It was the perfect way to back up the Oxford win when we took the game narrowly one nil on Saturday, but for Brown he explained to the Official Site that for him it was a massive win because the team really had to show their resolve and character.
'It was a calculated performance, it was a performance of real resolve and we eventually got the goal to win the game. Torquay are down the bottom fighting for their lives and they came here and set up to frustrate not just us, but the fans too. We've had to dig in and we got that goal. We knew they'd come out and play if we got that first goal and we did.'
Brown says that having got our noses in front we knew it would be a different type of game and they would come at us more and try and ask us questions, be he feels we saw the game out well and he didn't think goalkeeper Daniel Bentley was really troubled over the course of the 90 minutes itself, not the final 20 or so following on from Freddy Eastwood's eventual winner.
'Monday was a gold star performance, this was a bronze star, but an absolutely massive performance.'
As for the goal scorer himself, Brown goes on to say that although we'd had a bright start, he decided to make the change to 442 so we could really try and put some pressure on them and thankfully for us it paid off and Freddy made the difference he wanted him to when he came on as s substitute.
'When the ball falls to someone like that in the box you want it to be him, unfortunately for us in the last couple of weeks for us it hasn't been. It did today and he stuck it away well.'
The secondary delight for the gaffer is the fact that he feels the signs are good moving forward now towards the end of the campaign because 'with Freddy and Lee both back among the goals, and Jamar coming in to make an impact' added to the fact that we also have Barry to return to the squad he feels we are getting playing back properly fit at just the right time for us, especially following our recent wobbles.
Bentley also go his wish to have the clean sheet tally match his shirt number as we now have four clean sheets in a row, and that number 17 for the season, so if we can click up front, defensively we are already in good form.
