Brown Secures Egan Extension

Brown Secures Egan Extension

Earlier tonight Southend United announced that they had secured the loan extension of centre half John Egan until the end of the season.

Since joining us at the start of March, the Sunderland defender has turned out six times for us and helped us to three clean sheets over those games, the last three in fact.

Not content with doing his day job, Egan has also contributed one of the stand out goals of the season for us in the draw against Scunthorpe United where his strike helped us to a point in the game.

His extension already covers the possibility of us entering the play off run and should we achieve that he will be eligible for those games.

Speaking to the Official Site following news of the loan extension, manager Phil Brown explained.

'John has done really well since coming to the club and alongside Jakub they've helped keep three clean sheets in the last three games. If you had said six weeks ago we'd have two defenders keeping Luke Prosser our of the team, I'd have said no chance. That's testament to the performance of John and Jakub and I'm delighted John will be with us until the end of the season now.'
