The Report: Scunthorpe 2 Southend 2

Scunthorpe might have set a club record of 20 games unbeaten but they did this after Southend had fought back from two-nil down to earn an important point in our two-two draw at Glanford Park on Tuesday.

It didn't take Scunthorpe long to break through as Matt Sparrow marked his first start in four month by smashing high into the roof of the net after we'd failed to clear the danger from a cross in from the wing.

Scunthorpe went into the break two-nil up when Sam Winnall stretched a leg to get onto the end of Gary McSheffrey's freekick to add to his goals tally, which currently sees him as their top goalscorer.

Phil Brown clearly wasn't happy as he sent the player out early in the second half.

Signs of improvement were seen but a goal had to come early if we were going to manage a fightback and we did that when John Egan tried his luck from 30 yards, this stunning strike beat Sam Slocombe to give us a route back into the game.

Within minutes we were level.

John White's effort was a cross but the right wing delivery had enough on it to creep in beyond the Scunthorpe goalkeeper and we were level less than 25 minutes into the second half.

A winner couldn't be found but nor could Scunthorpe find another goal to condemn us to another defeat.

We're still in desperate need of a win, and haven't managed this now in ten games, but crucially this point kept us in the top seven on goal difference which wouldn't have been the case had White not earned us a point.

Plymouth would've overtaken us if we'd lost again as they secured another win.
