Sunderland's Egan The Latest Loanee

Southend's latest defensive loanee has become Sunderland's John Egan with Phil Brown bringing the defender in on loan for a month as cover for others that are injured.

Cian Bolger joined us on loan from Bolton last Friday but by the time the weekend had ended injury on his debut saw him forced to return to his Championship club, which followed on from Luke O'Neill's injury that also saw him injured on his debut previously and having to return to Burnley.

Brown has told the official website that he knew he had to move into the emergency loan window again due to a growing defensive injury list and feels that Egan can settle into the squad immediately and offer us something.

'With Adam Thompson, Luke Prosser, Cian Bolger and Julian Bennett all out injured, we've moved as quickly as possible to bring in cover.

'John is the type of defender I like to have in my side, and I'm sure he'll fit straight in. He's a no-nonsense type of defender but at the same time he can get the ball down and play out from the back.

'The chairman has allowed us to move to bring someone in because of the injuries to current defenders.

'John will have a couple of days now to train with us and prepare for the Wycombe game on Saturday.'

Hopefully it'll be third time luck for us and the 21 year old, who is yet to appear for Sunderland, can have better fortune with him likely to come in for an instant League 2 debut against Wycombe this weekend now that Adam Thompson is also injured.
