'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Report: York 0 Southend 0

Southend's run without a league win was extended further but we again had to be content with a draw after a nil-nil draw with York at Bootham Crescent on Saturday.

York might have failed to score for a fourth home game in a row, I think it was, but should've come into this in confidence after winning four-nil at Plymouth Argyle last weekend and would've gone ahead early on but for Daniel Bentley again being at his best.

Ryan Bowman's shot meant that Bentley had to make a good save.

Adam Thompson blocked an effort from Michael Coulson and then Bentley produced his next save with him tipping Will Hayhurst's drive wide to keep us in the game.

It wasn't until the half time break was approaching that we started to threaten.

Kevan Hurst, so often our main goal threat this season, went close with Nick Pope eventually forced into his first meaningful save when the goalkeeper stopped an effort from one of his own players Lanre Oyebanjo going down as an own goal.

Hurst had perhaps been our main goal threat but Barry Corr has scored some important goals and he almost managed this again.

Twice Corr had headed efforts, firstly heading over from John White's cross and then heading another wide with the striker missing arguably our best chances of the afternoon.

York almost ended that baron run of homes games without a goal with a late winner as Thompson denied Coulson again. In the first half he blocked his effort but this time he cleared his effort off the line to make sure we went home with at least a point.

Automatic League 2 promotion is looking increasingly unlikely for us now.

This isn't something that we can give up on but we'll have to see a dramatic improvement in our form if this will now happen so making sure we stay in the play offs is now the priority.
