The Preview: Southend v Hartlepool
The chances of automatic promotion out of League 2 has taken a battering in the past week with two defeats in a row, and a tight defence starting to concede a few goals. The play off hopes could start to become fragile too if Southend aren't able to beat Hartlepool at Roots Hall on Tuesday.
Luke Prosser overcame one injury just to pick up another in Portugal last week, and that meant he missed the Exeter defeat and he'll miss this game too. Conor Clifford also continues his suspension but Barry Corr's injury shouldn't keep him out. Anthony Straker is in contention to start again after being named on the bench against Exeter after the birth of his child hours before.
Hartlepool's top goalscorer Luke James should be fit but Neil Austin will be kept out by injury again. Michael Duckworth returned from injury in their weekend to take a place on the bench and he could start for the first time this year.
A run of four games without a win needs to end to firstly get our promotion attempts up and running again and then to keep us in contention with the top three finish to gain automatic promotion.
If Hartlepool beat us though they'll start thinking they could catch us and then even our play off place comes under threat.
