Brown: Patience Wins Through
Patience is something that Southend had to have plenty of to see off Wimbledon one-nil on Boxing Day. Wimbledon had a man sent off just before half time and their ultimate objective then would have been to keep it tight, frustrate us and look to avoid defeat whereas Southend had to bide their time and wait for an opening.
Brown revealed in his post match interview that he's told the players at half time that patience would be needed and changes from the bench might have been needed to win the points, and it was the changes that helped with Woodrow one of the players that he turned to just before the hour and he powered home a header that earned the one-nil win 15-minutes after his arrival.
Wimbledon's manager Ardley viewed the sending off of Francomb as harsh, and even though it was a strong challenge Brown admitted that he too perhaps thought Francomb and his manager could feel aggrieved, as he would have had that happened to Southend. Brown revealed he had felt for his opposite manager but was happy to profit from this advantage.
