Guard Against Complacency

Southend take on Torquay this weekend, in a match that you'd like to think we'll have enough about us to win?

Given our league position, and of course there's, it's easy to make that assumption and it would also be easy to become complacent and perhaps not give the opposition the respect that we should...

Phil Brown is wary of this and is keen to make sure that this isn't the case when we travel to Plainmoor on Saturday.

He told BBC Essex: 'I think the downside to this game is that you've got a wounded animal mentality and a wounded animal's got a chance of biting back and hurting you.

'We've got to guard against any complacency from ourselves and we've got to make sure we respect the opposition in the same way we've done against Chesterfield and other teams recently.

'We're not treating this game light, they will be fighting for their lives and we've got to be ruthless on Saturday.'

Torquay really are struggling at the moment, whereas we're flying but it only takes a momentary lapse of concentration for that to count for nothing but I'm confident that we're going into this in confident mood and not an arrogant one, if it's the latter we'll come a cropper.

As it is I fancy us to continue our charge in league two and come away with another win to move us closer to the festive period on a very good position.
