'If It's Football, It's Vital'

An Excellent Performance

It wasn't really a game that either side would have wanted to lose and both would've fancied winning.

In the FA cup though there of course can be only one winner!

The first round draw meant that Southend had to travel to Morecambe, and that home advantage might have made them slight favourites but it was us that won.

A couple of early Anthony Straker goals got us underway with Ryan Leonard wrapped up a 3-0 win in injury time and Phil Brown was delighted with this, he said: 'It was an excellent performance from us and after such a great start we didn't really look in trouble.

'We got two early goals to give us a dream start and we then went on to answer any questions they asked of us. We are defending really well at the minute and we kept our shape all the way through.

'We always looked forceful in the first half and although we lost our way a bit in the second half we went on to win the game comfortably.'

Straker has suddenly started getting goals and Brown, who revealed that a fan had told him before the game they had a bet on Anthony to bag a treble, feels his confidence should be really high as he keeps telling him he needs it to be!

Not only did we beat the Shrimps for the first ever time, we battered them and secured a place in round two of the FA cup and keep alive the hopes of a money spinner in round three perhaps...
