Southend Secure Woodrow For The Season
Short-term loans can do a job when you need an instant fix but if a player fits in well you always hope to keep them a little longer.
This is something that applies to Cauley Woodrow, first brought in on loan from Fulham in September.
His initial loan was extended and as he had impressed in his 10 first team outings (despite only scoring twice) Phil Brown was keen to extend it further so a deal has now been agreed with him premier league parent club to let him stay at Roots Hall until the end of the season.
Woodrow can most definitely feature in our FA cup campaign now, which gets underway against Morecambe in the first round today...
On the loan extension Brown told the official website: 'Extending this until the end of the season means he can settle here, work hard and improve as a footballer.
'As a young striker it's important to get games and goals. Cauley has got a couple in the cup and I'm sure when he does get that first league goal he'll kick on from there.'
That all makes sense doesn't it, and you can see why this was done as it works for all three parties.
I'd also agree with the boss that once that first league two goal comes for Cauley others will follow, he showed with his quick fire double against Dagenham and Redbridge what confidence a goal can bring.
