Kiernan Joins Southend

Kiernan Joins Southend

Southend have had to tread carefully with the transfers being made due to the transfer stipulations in place.

The search that Phil Brown has been undergoing for several weeks finally came to an end when he brought in Rob Kiernan on Friday on loan.

Kiernan, who has developed his game with loan spells in recent times away from his parent club at Brentford, Burton and Accrington, will spend the next three-months on loan with us from Wigan.

On his arrival Brown told the official website: 'I'm delighted to have Rob signed.

'We are a bit short defensively at the moment.

'He has impressed us all in training and comes here with experience.'

Defence, as Brown states, is an area that we've been short in so I can understand why he decided to move for Kiernan.

I don't really know much about the Wigan man but have heard the name previously and he's always been mentioned as one that is "rated" even though he's not make his Wigan debut yet since his arrival with the Latics in 2011.

I'm not convinced that he'll make it at the DW Stadium if I'm honest but further first team football will help his chances of changing the managements mind with Wigan, if nothing else it reminds others that he's still about and could get him a move elsewhere?
