QPR Too Strong For Southend

QPR Too Strong For Southend

Southend's first pre-season friendly at Roots Hall ended in defeat against strong QPR side, that of course played in the Premier League last season.

QPR were ahead early on when former England striker Andy Johnson tapped home from close range. Southend caused problems to the QPR defence and a long-throw eventually brought an equaliser when Clint Hill headed into his own net.

The Shrimpers continued to cause problems but having gone into the break level they were soon behind again when half time arrival Stephane Mbia scored. Southend pushed for another leveller but couldn't quite manage this with a late Nedum Onuoha goal sealing a 3-1 win for Harry Redknapp's side.
