Contract For Midfielder

An eye-catching performance by Jack Payne in Saturday's 3-2 win over Great Wakering Rovers has earned the teenager a professional contract with Southend.

The 18-year-olds hard work and effort to impress Phil Brown, as he asked him to when he arrived, has paid dividends.

Payne was injured when Brown took over as manager but having been told to come back for pre-season he did and having impressed he's now a professional with the Shrimpers.
