Cresswell Wants To Move On
Southend have been rocked by the news, albeit not completely unexpected, that Ryan Cresswell wants to leave the club.
It's been murmured for a while that the defender could be favouring a return north having failed to settle in the south, with it now confirmed.
Phil Brown, as he told The Echo, as disappointed as he is has admitted as much. He said: 'I've spoken to Ryan and he's made noises that he would like to return up north. He has said he`s found it hard to settle and feels homesick.
'He would like to be nearer to where he`s from which, to be honest, is a shame, because he`s a very good player and I would want him to stay and be happy here.'
For the defender to leave the right price has to be paid, Brown added: 'We have a valuation of the player which needs to be met if we are to allow him to leave.'
'Not many League Two or League One clubs will be able to match that unless they decide to really push the boat out for a centre-back and Ryan is only interested in going to a northern club, so that limits his options too but the only bid we've had so far was paltry to say the least and we certainly won't be accepting that.'
Cresswell's performances last season saw him named in the League Two Team of the Season, so it's little surprise that interest is being shown and Fleetwood were the first team to make a move, however the offer they put in was well below that The Shrimpers are looking for.
In fact it's believed it was even less than the reported £50,000 spoken of!
