'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Howe About That

That old favourite "a source close to the club" has told The Echo that Southend are interested in signing Rene Howe this summer.

After a couple of successful seasons with Torquay, helping them to League Two safety last time round, the striker looks destined to leave the Devon outfit and Southend are keen.

This source said: 'Rene is a strong player with a proven record in League Two so it's only natural the club would be interested in someone like him if he's available.'

Southend boss Phil Brown is in the market for a new striker and Howe, who is expected to leave Torquay at the end of his contract, certainly ticks all the boxes you'd like a striker to tick at League Two level, with League One planned down the line.
