Contingency Plan In Place
Everyone, unless you aren't connected to Southend, will be hoping that Sean Clohessy decides to sign a new deal with The Shrimpers.
However, as he told The Echo, Phil Brown already has a contingency plan in mind as to who will play at right back next season if Clohessy doesn't agree a new deal.
Ryan Leonard has been lined up to play in that position if needs be, Brown said: 'We're not sure what's happening with Sean at this stage, but after the season he's just had I would imagine he would have the choice of clubs.
'We want him to stay and haven't given up hope of that happening but if he does move on then Ryan would definitely fit in there.
'We actually tested all of the players at the end of the season and Ryan was the quickest player we have in the squad over a number of the distances. That suggests he would be well suited to play at right-back, which I understand is actually his natural position and, if Sean does go, he could well end up playing there.'
The 21-year-old impressed Brown at the end of the season, with him more than taking the opportunity given to him to impress.
