No Chance Given
Among those released recently by Southend was Michael Spillane, and he was always expecting this having failed to get a look-in under Phil Brown.
The midfielder, snapped up by Paul Sturrock in January from Dagenham on a deal that was until the end of the season but with an option for another year, didn't feature in a single minute under Brown following his appointment as Sturrock's successor at the end of March.
Spillane, who harbours no grudge, was expecting to be released but still feels he wasn't given a fair crack of the whip.
He told The Echo: 'I didn't play for a single minute under the new manager and don't feel I was really given much of a chance under him.
'That's football though and there are no hard feelings from me because it's up to the manager who he picks and who he doesn't.
'But because I didn't play it wasn't a surprise that I got released, however it was obviously still disappointing.'
He was probably a little hard done by, without giving someone a chance it's tough to judge just how good someone is really isn't it but in Brown you have to trust!
