'If It's Football, It's Vital'

No Sturrock Return

Would he wouldn't he? That was the question surrounding Paul Sturrock and his return to manage Southend for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final next month.

In a highly unusual move Sturrock was "definitely" going to manage The Shrimpers against Crewe, however question marks where put against this earlier this week with it now confirmed that new boss Phil Brown will be in charge.

Sturrock, as he told BBC Essex, feels that the difficult decision to decline the offer was best for the club: 'I feel unrest caused to the players and fans on this fantastic day might spoil their enjoyment.

'It was obviously a difficult decision, but I do feel it's the right one as a professional man.'

Chairman Ron Martin continued to want Sturrock to manage the side that day, and in the lead up to it, but he'll now "have a few beers" with the fans joining them to experience the day as "a true fan."

The support that Sturrock was offered is something he says he really appreciates and is also looking forward to a new challenge coming along for him soon.

It was an unheard of move really, maybe it would have worked but perhaps Sturrock has made the correct profession decision?
