Southend Bring In Sheffield Wednesday Winger

Ahead of the game last Tuesday night Southend brought in Danny Mayor in a loan capacity.

The 22-year-old winger was signed on an initial one-month loan having impressed Shrimpers boss Paul Sturrock last year when he featured against the club a couple of times.

Mayor joined the Championship side last summer from Preston, however he's found first-team football difficult to come across and has only one outing for The Owls to his name.

Sturrock, as he told BBC Essex, thinks this move will benefit all concerned: 'He moved to Sheffield Wednesday, but he hasn't been able to push into the team. He needs games.

'I think he'll be a good addition, we've been struggling for a left-sider. Hopefully he will come and do the business.'

The loan has been made with the view of extending it until the end of the season.
