Southend See Off Oxford

Southend 1-0 Oxford

Roots Hall

Southend left it late but did enough to secure a Roots Hall win over Oxford on Saturday afternoon.

Oxford, who could have been ahead in the first minute, had the better of the chances either side of the break but the game remained scoreless for the most part of it.

With just five-minutes to play Ryan Leonard (85), who had come off the bench, head home to put Southend ahead and secure them a 1-0 win against an Oxford side who were giving Luke McCormick a debut. The former Plymouth keeper served half of a jail sentence for causing the death of two children back in 2008, he arrived on deadline day.
