Southend went into the game with Burton at The Pirelli Stadium unbeaten in 14. By the time the game ended on Saturday The Brewers had ended that run.

Burton got off to a fine start with an early goal from Calvin Zola (16) opening the scoring for them. Southend had chances but The Brewers kept them out and doubled the lead before the break through Lee Bell (36).

A second yellow card for Nathan Stanton in the second half did mean that Burton ended the game with 10-men but they still won 2-0.
