Southend can look forward to the next round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy after they knocked out Dagenham on Tuesday night at Roots Hall.
An early Ryan Cresswell (17) goal saw Southend take the lead, which was taken into the half time break.
Victory, and place in round three, was secured when Britt Assombalonga (62) made it 2-0 just after the hour.
