Smith safely released from hospital

Southend, and the player himself of course, have been boosted by the news that Paul Smith has been "safely released" from hospital following a nasty collision on Tuesday.

The keeper was knocked out following an accidental clash with Deon Burton and needed almost ten-minutes of on field treatment before being taken off and taken to hospital.

A scan confirmed that no serious damage was sustained but the 32-year-old did pick up a neck injury that will almost certainly keep him out of the weekend game with Exeter.
