Run ended

Gillingham 1-0 Southend

18th Sept 2012
19:45
Priestfield

Southend saw a decent run of form that was being put together ended on Tuesday night at Gillingham by the league two leaders.

After a long delay in the first half, when Shrimpers keeper Paul Smith was injured (and eventually taken off) following a clash with Deon Burton, this meant a lot of first half injury time would be seen...It was during this period that Gillingham took the lead.

Danny Kedwell (45+3) took responsibility for this spot kick and tucked it past the replacement keeper to give the hosts a one-nil half time lead, but there was still time for Gillingham youngster Bradley Dack to see a straight red for a lunge on Mark Phillips.

Southend tried to battle back in the second half against the 10-men but weren't able to force an equaliser so eventually lost out 1-0.
