'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Striker stays

As expected Britt Assombalonga has extended his loan spell with Southend.

The opportunity to play as much as possible, as he told the official website, is behind this reasoning.

He hopes by doing this he can eventually force his way into Gianfranco Zola's plans at Watford: 'I want to play games and get more time under my belt.

'This is my first taste of League football and it has been great, even if it took me a game of two to find my feet.

'The manager knows the game and there are some experienced players here that I can learn off. If I can carry on learning my trade at Southend United then it will help me grab the attention of the manager back at Watford.'

Four goals in six games have already been scored with 20 the target for this season: 'I've set myself a target of 20 goals for the season. Last year that target was 15 and I managed 16 so I am hoping to break another landmark this time round.'

If he sticks with The Shrimpers for the whole of the season you'd not bet against him scoring 20, staying with them until early January 2013, as he is scheduled to at the moment, should see him (at his current rate) someway towards that amount anyway!
